Concrete Rose Book Review

We follow a young Maverick in Garden Heights in 90's where he's seventeen years old he was currently getting his life sort of together through his mum working two jobs and his dad in prison Maverick knew he had everything on the control until he finds out he's a father which turned his world upside down because the baby depends more on him since the baby mother Ishea found it stressful to look after him so Maverick had to do everything himself which he found looking after a baby challenging because he never done it before so through time he got use to it then struggles to balance school and work, fatherhood life all together...

Thomas has a voice that captures you to read more of her characters especially what I loved about Maverick was the insight you see as a young black teenage boy also known as a dad which was something that doesn't get spoken about also the drugs and gang element of young black boys like him having to leave boyhood in such a young age to enter into manhood, I think Angie has nailed the head and done it again when it comes to her family bounds and the rawness of her characters that you want more like the praises she gets Angie really gave her generation a voice and what makes this book powerful and interesting she brought a male lead which in books now there isn't a lot of boys like Maverick that are black being the light of young adult to help adults and teens to understand the reality of life so she has done it again folks!
