This not a book for children it's a YA novel, so be careful when your buying this book for younger readers.

This story talks about a sixteen year old Starr Carter who was invited to a party that she didn't feel comfortable to be there through running away after someone got shot in the Garden Heights party with her best friend Khalil Harris, she ends up in the car on her way to escape from the scene that when they both get stopped by a police officer and they persuade Khalil to get out of the car and Starr herself Khalil ends up dead in the incident. Starr ends up being his Witness to speak about what happens in Khalil death which makes her feel sick and confused and makes her friends act weird against her for behaving so funny Starr world turns into two worlds. where she's goes to a rich school called Willmanson and her friend Hailey was a tricky friendship with Starr and admits she the racist comment where she mentioned chicken nugget to her. Kenya struggles with the relationship with her parents King Lord and his wife Iesha, who don't get along with the Carter family. King tries to destroy one boy called Devante. who use to be a drug dealer and Khalil wasn't interested to sell Drugs so basically King Planned the shot against one fifteen which his name wasn't really known in the beginning Starr lives with her two brothers Half Brother Seven and a younger brother called Sekani and her parents Lisa and Maverick and Starr opens up with the relationship with her boyfriend Chris and admits she had a crush on Khalil.

the book was really tensed to read and made me understand racism and how people used drugs and how it was difficult it is to be black and how your friends see you as one and how everyone seeks for you so badly as a Witness when your best friend dies and you won't see him again, I really loved this book I felt Angie made Starr someone so real that you could hug her and relate to the pain and angers behind her with her family and how people at school saw her and how she turned into this witness celebrity. because of her best friend death how everyone bothered her to know more when the words felt shutter for her to admit the love relationship with Chris were a bit challenging for her to admit but you could feel when Khalil died it really hit her heart. it spoke a lot about having  a voice because if you don't shout to the world the problems are not over, the book made me realise characters are people no matter what they go through. colour or disability or speech of voice especially being black we are all people and we need books like Angie's novel to teach us about the world we live in. how we treat people and how cruel we can be to someone either because of background or accent.
